About Us

Welcome to Replin by Hainsworth

We apply over 240 years of expertise to craft exceptional fabrics for the transport sector.

Premium transport fabrics of exceptional quality

Replin by Hainsworth products are synonymous with technical innovation, aesthetic appeal, and are proudly British-made in AW Hainsworth’s Yorkshire mill, which has been weaving fabrics since 1783.

Our goal is to enhance and elevate the travel experience for every passenger, merging safety, style and comfort.

Our process is truly design-led and genuinely collaborative. We work closely with our clients to create bespoke, high-performance fabrics, leveraging our deep understanding of the properties of wool and advanced textile technology.

The outcome is bespoke, high-performance fabrics that not only deliver aesthetically, but that also offer remarkable durability and consistency.

Our story

We’ve been manufacturing premium wool-rich fabrics for over 240 years, and leverage our centuries of expertise to continue developing innovative market-leading products.

Weaving in Yorkshire since 1783

AW Hainsworth is established in Farsley, Leeds.

The Battle of Waterloo

Hainsworth supplies scarlet uniform cloth to the British Army. This wool melton cloth was the most flame-retardant fabric on the market at the time.

Khaki Serge for the British Army

With the growing use of rifles and artillery in combat, the demand for bright scarlet cloth is replaced by a need for camouflage colours. Hainsworth works with Yorkshire College to create a new worsted fabric construction in Khaki, and in 1899 the first orders are placed by the British Army.

The ‘Boys in Blue’

When the Air force separated from the Army in 1918 and approached Hainsworth for colour ideas to allow them to have their own identity, it was Hainsworth that proposed the distinctive blue cloth that they have worn ever since.

Replin is established

Dr Maurus Banyai, inspired by Gobelin tapestries, files a patent for a unique loom that could twist together fibres. Following the success of his invention, Dr Banyai establishes a new business in Ayr, Scotland – British Replin.

Success for Replin

Four years later, Replin is already supplying fabrics to the UK Houses of Parliament, Cunard Liners, and London Airport. Sadly, Dr Banyai passes away this year.

The Golden Age of Air Travel

By 1960 Replin fabrics can be found on numerous international airlines including Aer Lingus, Quantas, South African Airways, and Aerolíneas Argentinas.

Introducing Nomex to the UK

Hainsworth introduce the first protective Nomex fabrics to the UK, and to this day supply fire services around the world.

Introducing WNN

Replin Fabrics launch the WNN collection: a lightweight, tightly woven and highly durable option for aviation Vertical Surface upholstery.

The Eclipse range

Replin introduced the Eclipse range – custom-designed luxury fabrics for aircraft vertical surfaces.

Replin by Hainsworth is born

Replin is acquired by AW Hainsworth to form Replin by Hainsworth.

Major Eclipse launches

This year two major airlines launch new cabins featuring custom Eclipse fabrics – South African Airways (in their Airbus A330-300 fleet) and Qatar Airways (in their business-class QSuite).

The Steadfast Collection

Replin by Hainsworth launch the Steadfast trend collection, experimenting with undyed wool yarns for a more sustainable manufacturing process.

80 years of Replin

Replin by Hainsworth celebrates 80 years of manufacturing cutting-edge transport fabrics.

Our values

Our company values are the foundation of who we are, shaping our company culture and how we operate across the Hainsworth group.

Quality

Exceptional quality. Our reputation is built on it. Our future depends on it.

We approach everything we do with care and commitment. We understand that small details make a big difference to the quality of our products. It’s this quality our customers seek us out for, it’s this that makes us proud to apply the Hainsworth name.

Family

We started out as a family business and we continue to be a family business. This means we share a commitment to look after each other, our customers and the community we’re part of. Relationships matter to us.

We invest in our own people to support their professional growth and wellbeing. We work together to make AW Hainsworth a business where people feel they belong.

Sustainability

We’re shaping the future of our industry. To make sure that future happens, we’ve made a firm commitment to building a sustainable, profitable business.

In everything we do, we aim to reduce our impact — in our processes, our practices and our products — and contribute positively to the conversation around sustainability.

Meet the team

We bring together a mix of experienced designers, technical specialists and industry experts to form, working in the mill, in our Design Studio and in our Sales Office. It’s this combination of commercial awareness and technical expertise that makes Replin the perfect partner.
